Peter's
Story
Dr Peter J. Chum is a seasoned business strategist, executive coach, and organisational consultant with over 25 years of cross-sectoral experience spanning finance, leadership development, and human capital consulting. He is the Founder and Managing Consultant of Professional Talent Management (PTM), where he leads a multidisciplinary team in delivering coaching, training, and advisory services tailored to corporate leaders, NGOs, and mission-driven organisations seeking transformative change.
Peter began his career in the financial services sector, where he quickly demonstrated strategic foresight and operational impact. His early leadership helped catalyse the growth of a Chinese financial conglomerate that achieved a historic listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Mother Board in 2004. Drawing on his MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University, he leveraged both technical acumen and global perspective to spearhead key initiatives that delivered high-value outcomes during pivotal corporate phases. This experience laid the foundation for his transition into consultancy, where he has since devoted himself to enabling leadership excellence and embedding coaching cultures across Asia.
Peter’s academic trajectory reflects a deliberate integration of disciplines to support holistic leadership development. His MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice from Oxford Brookes University enables him to champion coaching as a strategic lever for performance, retention, and organisational agility. His Professional Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology and Psychodiagnostics complements this work by providing deeper insight into behavioural dynamics and the psychological undercurrents affecting workplace performance. Together, these credentials empower him to design interventions that are both results-driven and psychologically attuned.
Peter holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. His doctoral thesis, Navigating Managerial Coaching: Challenges and Strategies in Hong Kong’s Corporate Sector, employed Grounded Theory methodology and culminated in the creation of the Proactive Coaching Integration Framework (PCIF), which has since informed both academic inquiry and real-world coaching implementation. He is also the author of two books:
-
PROPEL: A Framework for Transformative Coaching in Leadership and Personal Development (2025), and
-
PROPELled to Lead: Unleashing Proactivity and Human Connection in Coaching and Life (2026).
Peter developed the PROPEL Coaching Model as an actionable and evidence-based framework for integrating coaching into leadership, organisational change, and personal growth. His consulting approach is known for its depth, adaptability, and cultural relevance—always anchored in sound theory and practical insight.
Beyond the professional sphere, Peter is committed to social impact. He has led philanthropic initiatives focused on elderly care, youth development, and rural healthcare. He also mentors emerging leaders and supports families affected by dementia—demonstrating his belief that leadership extends far beyond the boardroom.
At PTM, Peter continues to drive the firm’s strategic direction, ensuring that every engagement—whether executive coaching, curriculum design, or organisational advisory—is guided by integrity, relevance, and transformative value.
